Goodyear Winter Tires Canada 2026: WinterCommand Ultra + $100 Rebate (Longest Window)

Goodyear is running the longest rebate window of any major brand in the 2026 winter tire season. Sep 7 through Dec 20 — that's 15 weeks, and $100 back on the WinterCommand Ultra. If you've been on the fence about upgrading your winters, there's no better time to move.
We stock the full Goodyear winter lineup at our Winchester, Ontario location. Here's an honest rundown of what each model does well and who it's built for.
$100 Goodyear Winter Rebate — Sep 7 to Dec 20, 2026. Buy four eligible Goodyear winter tires and get a $100 prepaid Mastercard back by mail-in or online claim. Claim at tirepromos.com/en/dttire. WinterCommand Ultra, Wrangler DuraTrac RT, and Assurance WeatherReady 2 all qualify for the full $100. This is the longest rebate window of any major brand this season — but it still closes December 20, so don't wait until the snow hits.
WinterCommand Ultra: Goodyear's Best Winter Tire
The WinterCommand Ultra is Goodyear's updated premium studless winter, and it's where most of our customers land when they want a name-brand winter tire without paying Michelin or Bridgestone prices.
The engineering changes from the previous WinterCommand are meaningful. Goodyear replaced the compound with what they call WeatherReady+ technology — a formulation that stays workable across a wider temperature range than the previous generation. In practice, that matters most in the shoulder months: November, March, those days where it goes from -5°C at 7 AM to +8°C by afternoon. The WinterCommand Ultra maintains more consistent grip through those swings than the standard WinterCommand.
The sipe geometry has also been revised. More sipes, different angles — the result is better bite on glazed ice without sacrificing the snow performance that makes the WinterCommand lineage worth recommending. Braking distances on hard ice are noticeably shorter than the outgoing model.
V-shaped snow evacuation channels run the full width of the tread to clear slush and heavy snow out of the contact patch before it can pack and reduce grip. This is the same design principle you see on the Bridgestone Blizzak and Michelin X-Ice — Goodyear has caught up on snow performance in the latest generation.
For 2024/25 and 2026, Goodyear significantly expanded the CUV and SUV sizing available in the WinterCommand Ultra. If you're fitting a three-row SUV, a pickup, or a crossover in a 255 or wider section, you'll find fitments this year that weren't available two seasons ago.
Select sizes include SealTech — Goodyear's self-sealing inner liner that closes punctures up to 6mm in diameter while you're driving. Not every size gets it, but if you're in an area with bad roads and want the peace of mind, check whether your size is a SealTech fitment.
The WinterCommand Ultra is eligible for the full $100 rebate.
Full Goodyear Winter Lineup
| Model | Type | Best For | Rebate |
|---|---|---|---|
| WinterCommand Ultra | Studless premium | Mixed conditions, most vehicles | $100 |
| UltraGrip Performance 3 (UGP3) | Ultra-premium performance | Luxury/sport vehicles | $60 |
| UltraGrip Ice 3 | Ice-focused studless | Urban ice driving | $60 |
| WinterCommand (standard) | Entry-level studless | Budget-conscious buyers | — |
| Wrangler DuraTrac RT | All-terrain 3PMSF | Trucks and SUVs, year-round | $100 |
UltraGrip Performance 3 (UGP3)
If you drive a BMW 3-series, a Mercedes C-Class, an Audi A4, or any sport sedan that needs to stay planted in February, this is the tier to look at. The UGP3 is Goodyear's ultra-premium winter, and it's engineered to maintain dry and wet handling performance alongside the winter capability — something that a pure ice-focused tire sacrifices.
The compound is softer than the WinterCommand Ultra, which is great for ice bite but means the UGP3 wears faster if you push into the shoulder months. It's a true winter-only tire and shouldn't be left on past April. $60 rebate.
UltraGrip Ice 3
City-focused and ice-specific. The Ice 3 has a higher sipe density than any other tire in the Goodyear winter lineup, which means more biting edges on glaze ice at urban speeds — the kind of driving you do in downtown Toronto, Montreal, or Ottawa where you're rarely above 60 km/h and the roads are salted but still icy.
What it gives up is snow performance at highway speeds. If you do extended highway driving in snowfall, the WinterCommand Ultra is a better fit. If you spend most of your winter on city streets where ice is the main hazard, the Ice 3 makes sense. $60 rebate.
WinterCommand (Standard)
The entry point in the Goodyear winter range. It meets 3PMSF certification and will outperform any all-season tire in Canadian winter conditions. What it lacks compared to the Ultra is the revised compound, the improved sipe geometry, and the SealTech option — you're getting the previous-generation performance at a lower price point.
For a second vehicle, a daily driver that's lightly used, or anyone who wants a Goodyear badge at the lowest possible entry price, this works. No rebate on the standard WinterCommand.
Wrangler DuraTrac RT
The odd one in this lineup — the DuraTrac RT is technically an all-terrain tire, but it carries full 3PMSF certification and $100 rebate eligibility. If you own a truck or SUV and want one tire that handles gravel roads and jobsites in summer plus winter conditions in Quebec or the Prairies, this is the only Goodyear tire that does both.
Traction in snow is genuinely strong — the aggressive tread blocks dig in well. Ice is not its strength, and on dry pavement it's louder and less refined than a dedicated winter tire. But for the owner who doesn't want to do a seasonal swap and needs winter certification, this is a real option.
How to Choose
WinterCommand Ultra is the right call for most drivers in Ontario, Quebec, and the Prairies. Mixed conditions — cold pavement, snow, slush, occasional ice — this tire handles all of it competently, and the $100 rebate makes it the most affordable entry into premium winter performance.
UltraGrip Performance 3 if you drive a sport or luxury vehicle and want the winter capability without giving up the handling feel you expect from that car.
UltraGrip Ice 3 if your daily commute is city-only, you're rarely on highways, and urban ice is your primary hazard. Skip it if you do significant highway driving in snowstorms.
Wrangler DuraTrac RT if you drive a truck or full-size SUV and want year-round capability without doing seasonal swaps. It's a compromise tire — excellent at some things, not optimized for ice — but it's the right compromise for a specific set of truck owners.
Standard WinterCommand if budget is the primary constraint and you want to be in the Goodyear family at the lowest price.
Price Comparison (CAD, per tire, popular sizes)
| Model | 215/60R16 | 225/65R17 | 255/60R18 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Haida HD617 | ~$75 | ~$85 | ~$110 |
| Goodyear WinterCommand | ~$130 | ~$145 | ~$180 |
| Goodyear WinterCommand Ultra | ~$160 | ~$178 | ~$215 |
| Goodyear UltraGrip Ice 3 | ~$155 | ~$175 | ~$210 |
| Bridgestone Blizzak WS90 | ~$165 | ~$190 | ~$230 |
| Michelin X-Ice Snow | ~$180 | ~$205 | ~$250 |
Prices before rebate. After the $100 Goodyear rebate, the WinterCommand Ultra set of four is approximately $130–$270 less than a comparable set of Michelin X-Ice Snow.
The Honest Take
Goodyear's winter lineup is strong across the board, and the 2026 WinterCommand Ultra is genuinely better than what came before it. Where it lands in the competitive field: it's a step behind the Bridgestone Blizzak IcePeak 9 and the Michelin X-Ice Snow+ on pure ice braking. Those tires have a multi-cell ice compound that's still the benchmark.
Where Goodyear wins is snow performance and overall balance. The WinterCommand Ultra is a more versatile tire than a dedicated ice compound — it doesn't give up as much on snow and cold pavement to get its ice numbers. And in Canadian winters, snow and cold pavement are most of what you're driving on.
The Wrangler DuraTrac RT is unique in this market. No other major brand offers an all-terrain tire with full 3PMSF certification and a $100 winter rebate. Truck owners who need winter certification without a separate tire set should look at it seriously.
The rebate window — Sep 7 to Dec 20 — is the longest available from any major brand this season. Buy before everyone else remembers they need winters in November.
