Hankook Winter Tires Canada 2026: W429, iON + $100 Rebate Through December

Hankook's 2026 winter rebate runs September 1 through December 31 — four full calendar months and the longest rebate window of any major tire brand available in Canada this season. That's not a small detail. Most brands open their windows in September and close before Christmas. Hankook's window covers the full run-up and the full installation season, including the late buyers who wait until the first snowfall and then panic.
The tire behind that rebate is also meaningfully better than what Hankook was selling two seasons ago. Here's a complete breakdown.
$100 Hankook Winter Rebate — Sep 1 to Dec 31, 2026. Buy four eligible Hankook winter tires and get a $100 prepaid Mastercard back via online claim. Claim at tirepromos.com/en/dttire. Winter i*Pike W429, iON Winter, i*cept evo3, and i*cept iZ3 all qualify. Online claim only — no mail-in option for this brand. Keep your receipt.
Winter i*Pike W429: Hankook's Updated Flagship
The W429 replaced the RS2 as Hankook's flagship passenger winter tire starting in the 2024/25 season, and it's a genuine step forward rather than a badge refresh.
The W429 is listed in our catalog as the Winter I-Pike RS2 — same tire family, available now.
The most important change is the compound. Below -20°C — the kind of temperature that Ottawa hits regularly in January and that Winnipeg or Edmonton considers routine — the old RS2 compound started losing pliability and grip noticeably. The W429's updated formulation maintains better contact patch flexibility at the low end of the Canadian temperature range. If you drove the RS2 and noticed it feeling wooden on very cold mornings, the W429 is a different experience.
Ice Bear Technology is Hankook's term for the micro-sipe pattern that opens under contact pressure on ice, creating more biting edges at the moment the tire is trying to stop or corner. The micro-sipes are narrower and more densely distributed across the tread blocks than in the RS2, which translates to shorter braking distances on hard ice at urban speeds. This is the performance area where the RS2 was most criticized — the W429 addresses it directly.
The center rib has been stiffened and the tread block geometry revised to improve straight-line stability at highway speeds. If you've driven a pure ice tire at 110 km/h in light snow on the 401, you know how squirrely the steering can feel. The W429 handles highway snow driving more confidently than a tire tuned purely for city ice.
Hankook has significantly expanded the CUV fitments for 2026. If you're fitting a Kia Telluride, a Hyundai Tucson, a Sorento, or any three-row crossover in a 235 or wider section, the W429 availability is better than it was with the RS2.
One note for Hyundai and Kia owners specifically: Hankook is a Hyundai Group supplier and has OEM fitments on some Hyundai and Kia vehicles. The W429 is built on the same platform as those OEM winter specifications. It's not a marketing point — it's relevant engineering context.
The W429 is eligible for the full $100 rebate.
iON Winter: The EV-Specific Tire
Hankook built the iON Winter from scratch for electric vehicles, and it shows in the engineering decisions that a converted passenger tire doesn't make.
The structural reinforcement is the most important difference. EV battery packs add significant weight compared to an equivalent ICE vehicle — a Tesla Model 3 Long Range weighs roughly 400 kg more than a comparable BMW 3-series. That weight load, applied through winter cornering and braking, stresses a standard tire's internal structure in ways it wasn't designed for. The iON Winter uses a stiffer belt package and a reinforced bead area to handle the load without sacrificing the tread-to-road contact consistency that determines winter grip.
Lower rolling resistance matters in winter more than most EV owners realize. Cold temperatures alone can cut a winter tire's rolling resistance by 10–15% in range impact compared to summer tires. A tire that also carries the typical winter compound penalty on top of that can put a noticeable dent in your range. The iON Winter's compound is formulated to minimize rolling resistance degradation in cold while still meeting the grip requirements of a winter tire — a harder trade-off than it sounds.
Canadian EV fitments covered: Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, Kia EV6 and EV9, Volkswagen ID.4, Ford Mustang Mach-E. Check the fitment guide — sizing coverage for Canadian market EVs is good but not complete at every size.
The iON Winter is eligible for the full $100 rebate.
Full Hankook Winter Lineup
| Model | Type | Best For | Rebate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Winter i*Pike W429 | Studless flagship | Most passenger cars and CUVs | $100 |
| Winter i*Pike X (W429A) | SUV/truck variant | Larger SUVs and light trucks | $100 |
| iON Winter | EV-optimized studless | Electric vehicles | $100 |
| Winter i*cept evo3 (W330) | UHP performance | Sport/luxury/performance vehicles | $100 |
| Winter i*cept iZ3 (W636) | Ice-specific | Urban ice, city driving | $100 |
Winter i*Pike X (W429A)
The SUV and truck variant of the W429 platform. Larger contact patch, reinforced sidewall for load-bearing, and sizing that covers the vehicles the standard W429 doesn't — 265/70R17, 275/55R20, and the SUV-specific sizes that Hankook doesn't fit into the passenger W429 lineup. Same compound and technology improvements, scaled for the application.
Winter i*cept evo3 (W330)
This is the ultra-high performance tier. If you drive a BMW M3, a Mercedes-AMG C43, an Audi RS5, or any performance vehicle with low-profile 18–21-inch tires, the W330 is designed to maintain the lateral grip and steering response those vehicles expect — which a pure ice tire destroys — while still meeting full winter certification.
It's not as strong as the W429 in deep snow. The tread depth is shallower, the compound stiffer. But on a performance vehicle in mixed winter conditions — cold pavement, light snow, the occasional icy intersection — it works far better than fitting a soft ice tire to a stiff suspension. $100 rebate.
Winter i*cept iZ3 (W636)
City-focused, ice-optimized. The iZ3 trades snow performance for maximum sipe density on ice. If you live in an urban area, drive mostly under 80 km/h, and your primary winter hazard is the icy back-alley or the glazed intersection after a freezing rain event, the iZ3 is built for exactly that use case.
Avoid it if you do significant highway driving in snowfall — the tread pattern doesn't move snow at speed the way the W429 does. $100 rebate.
How to Choose
W429 for the vast majority of Canadian drivers: mixed conditions, highway and city, Ontario through the Prairies. This is the tire that replaced a well-regarded flagship and improved the things that were criticized. It's the right answer for most questions.
W429A (Winter i*Pike X) if you're fitting a larger SUV or light truck and the W429 doesn't cover your size. Same technology, right vehicle.
iON Winter if you drive an EV and want a tire engineered specifically for the weight and efficiency requirements of an electric vehicle. Running a standard winter tire on an EV isn't dangerous — it just costs you more range and wears faster. The iON is the cleaner solution.
i*cept evo3 (W330) if you drive a performance or luxury vehicle and can't stomach the handling regression that comes with a soft ice tire. The W330 keeps more of the car's character in winter.
i*cept iZ3 (W636) if your driving is primarily urban, ice is your main hazard, and you rarely see the highway. Best fit for Montreal or downtown Toronto winter driving patterns.
Price Comparison (CAD, per tire, popular sizes)
| Model | 215/60R16 | 225/65R17 | 255/60R18 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Haida HD617 | ~$75 | ~$85 | ~$110 |
| Hankook W429 | ~$125 | ~$140 | ~$175 |
| Hankook iON Winter | ~$135 | ~$155 | ~$190 |
| Hankook W330 (evo3) | ~$145 | ~$165 | ~$205 |
| Bridgestone Blizzak WS90 | ~$165 | ~$190 | ~$230 |
| Michelin X-Ice Snow | ~$180 | ~$205 | ~$250 |
| Goodyear WinterCommand Ultra | ~$160 | ~$178 | ~$215 |
Prices before rebate. After the $100 Hankook rebate on a set of four W429s, you're paying roughly $530–$600 for a set that competes directly with tires selling at $700–$800 before any rebate.
The Honest Take
Hankook's W429 is the best value in the premium-adjacent tier. Full stop. It competes directly with Bridgestone and Michelin on snow performance, it's improved meaningfully on ice compared to the RS2 it replaced, and it comes in $30–$50 per tire cheaper than the Blizzak or X-Ice before rebate — with a $100 rebate on top.
Where the premium brands still lead: pure ice braking. The Bridgestone Blizzak IcePeak 9's multi-cell compound and the Michelin X-Ice Snow+'s micro-pocket technology still hold a measurable advantage in controlled ice braking tests. If you drive frequently on actual glare ice — rural Ontario at -5°C after freezing rain — that advantage is real.
For the majority of Canadian drivers, though, ice is a fraction of winter driving. Cold pavement, snow, slush, and mixed conditions are most of what you encounter. On those surfaces, the W429 gives up very little to the top-tier competition while being substantially less expensive.
The iON Winter fills a gap that matters more each year as EV adoption grows. There's no equivalent from most competitors — a purpose-built winter tire engineered around EV weight and range requirements. If you drive an EV and you haven't looked at EV-specific winter tires, this is worth understanding.
The Sep 1–Dec 31 rebate window is genuinely useful. September is when smart buyers order winters — before the shops are backed up, before the popular sizes start going out of stock. The fact that Hankook's rebate is already open means you can move now and still be within the claim window with no pressure.
