Buy Now, Pay Later on Tires and Auto Parts in Canada β€” The Honest Guide

Tires are not a purchase you can always plan for. A blowout on the 401, four bald tires before the first snowfall of the year, or a brake inspection that turns into a full pad-and-rotor job β€” these things happen on their schedule, not yours.

Buy now, pay later exists for exactly this: get the parts on the car now, spread the cost over several weeks or months. We offer five BNPL options at checkout. This post explains what each one does, which ones carry no interest at all, and how to pick the right one for your situation.

The five options at Autrex checkout

All five appear automatically at checkout β€” no pre-registration required, no application you fill out before you shop.

Sezzle β€” 4 payments, every 2 weeks

Sezzle splits your total into four equal payments. The first payment (25%) is taken at checkout; the remaining three are charged automatically every two weeks. If you buy four tires for $600, you pay $150 today and $150 on each of the next three dates β€” done and paid off in six weeks.

Interest: None, on the pay-in-4 plan when payments are made on schedule. Credit check: Soft inquiry only β€” no impact on your credit score. Available: Canada and the United States. Loan issued by: WebBank or Sezzle β€” see your loan agreement for complete terms.

Shop Pay Installments β€” 4 payments, every 2 weeks

Shop Pay Installments is powered by Affirm and built directly into Shopify checkout. If you already use Shop Pay, the process is fast β€” your payment method and address are already in. For smaller orders, it runs as a pay-in-4 (same structure as Sezzle). For larger orders, monthly plans may be available.

Interest: None on the pay-in-4 plan when paid on schedule. Monthly plans may be interest-bearing β€” Affirm shows your rate before you confirm. Credit check: Soft inquiry for the biweekly plan. Available: Canada and select markets.

PayPal Pay in 4

If you have a PayPal account, you can use Pay in 4 at checkout. Same structure: four payments over six weeks, no interest on the plan when paid on schedule.

Interest: None on the pay-in-4 plan. Credit check: Soft inquiry. Available: Canada.

Flexiti β€” monthly financing, longer terms

Flexiti is a Canadian lender offering monthly payment plans. It's the right choice when you're looking at a larger job β€” a full set of winter tires, a wheel package, a complete suspension rebuild β€” and you want smaller monthly payments over a longer period rather than a six-week payoff.

Current Autrex promotion: 6 months interest-free on qualifying orders up to $3,000. After the promotional period, standard Flexiti rates apply β€” Flexiti shows your full rate, term, and total cost of credit before you confirm. If you're on a promotional plan, paying it off before the period ends means you pay exactly the purchase price.

Credit check: Full credit application required. Approval is not guaranteed. Available: Canada only.

Heads up on Flexiti: promotional terms can change. The 6-months-interest-free offer is current as of the time this article was published β€” check the Flexiti details at checkout for the terms that apply to your purchase.

Affirm β€” monthly financing, flexible terms

Affirm powers Shop Pay Installments but also operates independently for longer monthly terms on larger orders. Rates range from 0% APR to interest-bearing depending on the plan and your approval β€” Affirm shows you the rate, term, and total before you commit.

Interest: Promotional 0% plans are available; other plans are interest-bearing. Credit check: Soft inquiry. Available: Canada and the United States.

Which plan fits your purchase?

Here's how to think about it:

SituationBest option
Tires under $600, want it paid off fastSezzle or Shop Pay (4 payments, 6 weeks)
Tires $600–$3,000, want low monthly paymentsFlexiti (6 months interest-free)
Large wheel + tire packageFlexiti or Affirm monthly
Already a Shop Pay userShop Pay Installments (fastest checkout)
US customerSezzle or Shop Pay

The common scenario we see: a set of four winter tires at $700–$900. That clears Sezzle's minimum, fits inside Flexiti's $3,000 ceiling, and the pay-in-4 works out to $175–$225 per payment for Sezzle, or roughly $120–$150/month for six months with Flexiti β€” both manageable. Pick the timeline that suits your budget.

What "interest-free" actually means

The pay-in-4 plans (Sezzle, Shop Pay, PayPal) charge no interest when you make payments on schedule. You pay exactly the purchase price, divided into four equal payments.

Late or missed payments can result in fees from the provider β€” see your agreement for the specifics. Autrex does not charge a fee for using any payment plan, and does not receive any portion of any fees the provider may charge.

For Flexiti's promotional plan, "interest-free" means the same thing during the promotional period. If you don't pay the balance in full before the period ends, standard interest applies to any remaining amount.

Does using BNPL affect my credit score?

  • Sezzle, Shop Pay Installments, PayPal Pay in 4: Soft inquiry β€” no credit score impact.
  • Flexiti, Affirm monthly: Credit application β€” may involve a hard inquiry depending on the plan. The provider tells you before you apply.

Autrex never sees, stores, or transmits your credit information. The BNPL providers handle their own applications and credit decisions.

Real example: winter tires for an F-150

A set of four Atturo AW730 winter tires for a Ford F-150 (LT265/70R17) retails at $862 including free shipping.

PlanWhat you pay per paymentWhen you're done
Sezzle$215.50 Γ— 46 weeks
Shop Pay (4 payments)$215.50 Γ— 46 weeks
Flexiti (6 months)~$143.67/mo6 months

All three arrive at the same total: $862. No surcharge, no markup for paying in instalments.
